Three years ago, Casey Pugh kicked off an ambitious project called Star Wars Uncut. In it, the entirety of the 1977 sci-fi classic Star Wars: A New Hope was sliced and diced into 15 second chunks. Through the project’s website, everyday folks could upload their shot-for-shot remakes of each section with the eventual goal of crowdsourcing the entire film. Though all the clips were apparently complete two years ago, it was only cut into one continuous film within the past few days. 

Let me tell you, folks: It is charming as all get out. It’s an amazing labor of love, that makes you forget all the cynicism about the prequels and everything that has come since.

Here at Geyser of Awesome headquarters we see lots of awesome things. Our days overflow with awesomeness of just about every sort imaginable. So you should take us very seriously when we say that Star Wars Uncut is one of the most awesome things we’ve ever seen. The sheer scale of the project, the amount of people who participated and contributed, the incredibly varied styles and methods employed in each of the 472 15-second segments, and, last but not least, the unabashed love of Star Wars that radiates from beginning to end.

This video deserves to be watched at least once by anyone who identifies as a Star Wars fan. By the end you’ll be dying to watch the original films all over again, for the zillionth time. We certainly were and that’s exactly what we’ll be doing tonight.
